Hang One Yard or Less of Your Favorite African Print: DIY Fabric Frame
Looking for unique art for your home?
Do you love our prints, but you’re not sure what to make with them?
You can easily make your own African print wall art using just one yard of our limited edition Ankara prints! Enjoy African Art throughout your home without having to travel.
We love this print because it signifies Black solidarity. It was handmade in Ghana using the traditional batik method, which involves creating a pattern block out of a sponge, and then adding wax throughout the fabric which resists the black dye.
Materials needed:
1 yard of any of our African-made Prints
Wooden Hanger (details and special coupon code below!)
Ruler
Iron
Scissors (optional)
Instructions:
1. Choose a hanger for your print. We found the perfect hanger for our prints:
Magnetic Frame Wood Poster Hangers from Icehouse Woodwork & Design. The hangers are available in a variety of widths (8 inches to 73 inches or bigger); Normal size (1 3/8” tall) or Thin (7/8” tall); 6 different Stain Colors; and they can be purchased with 5 different String Colors or with no string at all.

We purchased a hanger that was 25 inches wide; Normal size; Classic Brown Stain color; and jute String Color.
2. Determine the size you’d like for your wall art/tapestry.
To make one similar to ours, start with one yard of any of our prints. One yard measures 45 inches wide and 36 inches long.
Lay your fabric down (“wrong side” facing up towards you) on a flat surface. Fold the fabric inwards on both sides. Iron flat.
You can also cut your fabric to the size you desire, but we still recommend pressing the sides in for a clean finish.
3. Insert your fabric. Carefully turn your fabric so the “right side” faces you, and place your fabric in between the top two and bottom two hangers. The magnets are very strong, so make sure to center your fabric before getting started.
